Pay is commensurate with experience within a range of $32.05 to $40.86 per hour. Part time (36 hours per week), non-exempt, benefits eligible. Responsibilities:  The primary responsibility of the Crisis Assessment Specialist is to complete a crisis assessment for Douglas County recipients that may be in need of admission to an acute care psychiatric hospital and anyone requesting admission to a state hospital.  Specific duties include but not limited to:

  • Conduct crisis assessment interviews including a mental status assessment of suicidal/homicidal risk, and an evaluation of whether this individual meets the inpatient psychiatric admission criteria;
  • Provide crisis counseling and determine, as a matter of course, whether the client would be appropriate for referral to outpatient care, or other services as an alternative to hospitalization;
  • Complete all paperwork and data entry associated with the screening and any other clinical work with the client;
  • Conduct brief phone assessments to determine the level of acuity on incoming calls to the Access Center;
  • Completing intake assessments, diagnosing/treatment plans and making appropriate referrals as indicated;
  • Provide referrals and/or schedule intake appointments as appropriate;
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job;
  • Completing additional responsibilities that may be assigned as circumstances warrant;


Qualifications include but not limited to: 

  • graduation from an accredited four year college or university plus a master's degree from an accredited school of social work, psychology or nursing;
  • a minimum of two years experience in a mental health outpatient setting (or similar setting) providing screening, psychiatric evaluation, crisis/emergency services and diagnoses
  • a commitment to a community-based mental health services delivery model;
  • Licensure from the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board in Kansas;
  • reliable transportation and a valid, unrestricted driver's license
