Student Intern Volunteer - Jail

This is an unpaid, non-benefits eligible position. 

Duties include providing mental health services to the Douglas County Jail population including:

·  Providing consultation to jail personnel regarding inmates with mental health problems;

·  Providing individual consultation/therapy for referred inmates;

·  Providing psycho educational group instruction to self-selected inmates;

·  Provide suicide/risk assessment to individual inmates who have either been referred by jail staff or exhibit high risk thoughts or behaviors;

·  Establishing and maintaining referral networks and community contacts;

·  Delivering services compliant with established standards;

·  Completing all paperwork/documentation associated with jail services in a timely and accurate manner;

·  Assisting with the evaluation of an effective and efficient program of services;

·  Completing additional responsibilities as assigned as circumstances warrant; and

·  Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

  1. Accountability:  The Social Work Intern will be directly accountable to the Program Supervisor or his/her designee.  The Program Supervisor or his/her designee will complete periodic assessments as requested by the sponsoring agency and as may be needed by the BNC during the student's placement with the BNC.
  1. Qualifications:  The Social Work Intern position requires:

·  pursuing a degree from an accredited four-year college or university plus be enrolled in a program of study that will lead to licensure/certification in the approved field of study;

·  prior computer experience and basic computer fluency;

·  reliable transportation and a valid, unrestricted driver's license;

·  an ability to work independently and in cooperation with others;

·  strong organizational skills;

·  strong oral and written communication skills;

·  strong interpersonal skills in working with diverse publics;

·  flexibility in assigned working hours;

·  a commitment to interdisciplinary and community mental health center approaches; and

·  an energetic and positive approach to the rapidly evolving changes and challenges of a complex work place.

·  must be able to achieve within one's first 6 months of employment a working competency in the management and use of the Center's electronic medical record (EMR) software as demonstrated by timely and accurate documentation of the clinical record

Bert Nash Center requires proof of Covid-19 immunization prior to starting any position. Covid-19 vaccine series must be completed or in process to be cleared for new hire orientation.
